Play against Easy, Medium and Expert word game bots
Word Release offers three bot levels: Easy, Medium and Expert. A bot game lets you play on the same board and use the same scoring rules as a human game without waiting for online matching.
Which bot level should I choose?
- Easy aims for words one to three letters shorter than the longest word in its rack. If no shorter word exists, it uses the shortest available valid word.
- Medium aims for words up to two letters shorter than the longest word in its rack.
- Expert aims for the longest word or one letter shorter.
The bot must still find a legal word and position on the current board. These levels guide word length; Expert does not mean that every move is the highest-scoring move possible. If its preferred word lengths cannot be played, every bot searches all legal dictionary placements, including shorter words and words using existing board letters. A bot passes only when no legal move is available. A local bot thinks before placing its letters, and the game shows the word and its points.
Try a bot in another language
Choose your language from the game selection screen, then choose a bot difficulty. Select the bot’s dictionary separately. For example, use British English yourself and French for the bot. This is a direct way to try playing a word game in different languages without waiting for a cross-language human match.
Practise on your own
Practice Mode gives you seven turns with one score. Use it to try placements, experiment with bonus squares and check words in your chosen dictionary. There is no opponent to beat.
Resume or end your game
Back returns you to game selection. If you have an unfinished bot game, Resume Game reopens that difficulty; other bot levels and practice remain unavailable until it finishes. An unfinished practice game must likewise be finished before starting a bot game. Practice and bot games have an End Game button with confirmation.
Credits for wins
Your first qualifying result in a naturally completed bot game each day earns one award: a win earns one credit for Easy, two for Medium or three for Expert; a draw against Medium or Expert earns one credit. Later bot wins or draws that day earn no credits. Losses and Easy draws earn no credits. Ending a bot game early with End Game earns no credits and does not use the daily opportunity. This limit includes named bots in online games and resets at midnight UK time. Every completed practice game that reaches its target earns one credit. Setting a new personal best in practice, at each bot difficulty, or in human online games earns one extra credit. There is no daily limit on target or personal-best rewards. These rewards are separate from bot rewards. Ending practice early earns no credits. Credits can enable the wordometer or buy hints. See scoring, bonuses and hints for how those features work.
